The good news is that even if you don’t have a degree, you can get a professional job if you have the right resume. When you get professional assistance writing a resume, you usually get some inside tips to help you. But since you’re doing it on your own, here are some tips to consider…
Find Your Strengths
Just because you don’t have a college degree doesn’t mean that you’re not a strong candidate. You’ve probably been able to accomplish just as much, if not more than, other degree-holding employees at your last job. So forget what you do have and think only about your strengths as you write your resume to show how truly capable you are of being the right person for the job.
Jot Down Alternative Training or Education
If you have been taking side courses to learn specific skills then by all means jot them down. While you may not have a degree to show off on your resume, any certifications, conferences, in-service training, seminars or even self-directed study could show that you are dedicated to enhancing your knowledge in that particular area.
Note if You’re In the Process of Getting a Degree
If you don’t yet have a degree, but you’re working on it, don’t forget to note this on your resume. You would simply need to list the school you’re attending (with city and state), the program you’re currently enrolled in, the expected degree and the date you expect to graduate. But adding this information, you show that you’re making every effort to broaden your horizon.
Remember, the lack of a college degree doesn’t mean a lack of strength, determination or ability. You are just as strong as the next candidate, or possibly even stronger, because you’ve been able to accomplish a great deal without the paper to prove your strength.
So push on through your job search feeling good about who you are. In no time, you’ll show those employers just why they need you as they’re next employee.
